How it works

The Adventure Access Trail map was created using Google Maps. Accessibility features are sorted out using layers, which means you can select the features you would like in your trail. I've added in notes about the trail containing some of the basic trail information as well as a link to my source.

Trails are coded using the following symbol system:

V - Trails that are intended for hikers with visual impairments. Some trails included here are also linear trails without branching trails that may be appropriate for some hikers with visual impairments.

O - Overlook, viewpoints, and beach access points that are wheelchair accessible. Some drives are included here as well.

M - Mobility Friendly - These are trails that are not necessarily ADA compliant, but are trails that have more easily navigable surfaces, low grades, wider paths, and/or rest areas along the trail. Please check the description for details and remember that weather conditions can impact non-paved trail materials, so always check conditions before heading out!

A- Trails that are listed as ADA compliant or as paved and wheelchair/stroller friendly. These typically will be paved or a stable material to meet accessibility guidelines. In the notes, I'll list if trail is ADA compliant. Trails that are listed as Accessible would also be appropriate for someone with mobility needs.

S - Sensory-friendly trails. These trails might be sensory trails specifically. They also might be trails that tend to be less crowded, quieter, or have other features that make them sensory-friendly. Since everyone's sensory needs differ, please check the description to see why a trail was added to this section.

P - Playgrounds with Accessibility Features. These are playgrounds that have elements that are wheelchair accessible, have sensory stations, are fenced in, or include other features. Please check the description for specifiics.
